Robert Johnson is one of the most influential blues musicians of all time. His raw and emotional songs have inspired generations of artists, from Eric Clapton to the Rolling Stones. But behind the legend, there was a real man with a complex and fascinating life.

Brother Robert was born David Edward Martin in Hazlehurst, Mississippi, in 1911. He was the younger brother of Robert Johnson, who was born two years earlier. The two brothers grew up together in a sharecropping family, and they both developed a love of music at an early age.

"We used to sing and play together all the time," Brother Robert recalled in an interview. "We would make up our own songs, and we would sing them in the fields while we were working."

As they got older, the two brothers began to play music professionally. Robert Johnson was the more talented of the two, and he quickly became a successful musician. Brother Robert played bass and sang backup vocals in Robert's band, and he also wrote some of his own songs.

In 1938, Robert Johnson was tragically killed at the age of 27. The circumstances of his death are still a mystery, but it is believed that he was poisoned by a jealous husband.

Brother Robert was devastated by his brother's death. He continued to play music, but he never achieved the same level of success as his brother. In the 1960s, he moved to Chicago, where he worked as a janitor and a security guard.

In 1971, Brother Robert published his memoir, _Brother Robert: Growing Up with Robert Johnson_. The book is a rare and personal glimpse into the life of one of the most enigmatic figures in music history. Brother Robert shares stories about his childhood with Robert, their early musical career, and Robert's tragic death.

Brother Robert's memoir is an essential read for anyone interested in the life and music of Robert Johnson. It is a fascinating and moving account of a brotherly bond that was cut short by tragedy.

Brother Robert's Legacy

Brother Robert died in 1993 at the age of 82. He left behind a legacy of music and memories. His memoir is a valuable contribution to the history of the blues, and his songs continue to be enjoyed by fans around the world.

Brother Robert was a talented musician and a kind and generous person. He was a loving brother, and he was a loyal friend. He will be remembered for his music, his stories, and his spirit.
