John Franklin's Ill-Fated Expedition

In 1845, Sir John Franklin embarked on an expedition to finally find the Northwest Passage. With two ships, the HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, he set sail from England with a crew of 129 men.

The expedition met with disaster. The ships became trapped in ice, and the crew was forced to abandon them. They struggled to survive on foot, but their supplies dwindled, and they eventually perished.

The Search for the Lost Expedition

The fate of Franklin's expedition remained a mystery for decades. Many search parties were sent out, but no trace of the ships or crew could be found.

Finally, in the 20th century, explorers using sonar technology located the wrecks of the Erebus and Terror. The discovery provided valuable clues about the expedition's tragic end.
