Jim Martin was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1901. He was the youngest of seven children, and he grew up in a poor family. When World War I broke out in 1914, Martin was just 13 years old. He was too young to enlist, but he lied about his age and joined the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC).

Martin was assigned to the 1st Battalion, Australian Imperial Force. He arrived in Gallipoli in April 1915, and he saw some of the most horrific fighting of the campaign. He was wounded in action several times, but he always returned to the front lines. In December 1915, Martin was promoted to corporal. He was the youngest non-commissioned officer in the ANZAC.

In April 1916, Martin was evacuated from Gallipoli and sent to France. He fought on the Western Front for the rest of the war. He was wounded again in 1917, and he was gassed in 1918. Despite his injuries, Martin continued to fight until the end of the war. He was discharged from the army in 1919, and he returned to Australia a hero.

Martin's story is a testament to the courage and determination of the ANZACs. He was just 14 years old when he enlisted, and he saw some of the most horrific fighting of the war. He was wounded in action several times, but he always returned to the front lines. Martin's story is an important reminder of the sacrifices made by so many young men and women during the war.
