In 1796, Napoleon Bonaparte's army entered Italy, sparking the Italian Revolutions. Over the next two decades, Italy underwent a series of radical transformations, from the establishment of short-lived republics to the Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy.

These tumultuous years laid the groundwork for the eventual unification of Italy, but also sowed the seeds of political instability and economic crisis that would haunt the country in the decades to come.

Mussolini's fascist regime played a key role in the outbreak of World War II and ultimately led to Italy's defeat and occupation.

The Great Depression: A Devastating Blow

The Great Depression, which began in the United States in 1929, had a profound impact on Italy. The country's economy, which was heavily dependent on exports, collapsed. Industrial production plummeted, unemployment soared, and social unrest intensified.

Ultimately, the Great Depression played a major role in the downfall of Mussolini's regime and the end of the fascist era in Italy.
