Cities have been the engines of human progress for centuries, but their history is often overlooked or distorted. In his groundbreaking new book, Secret History of the Urban Age, historian David Harvey tells the untold story of urbanism, revealing how cities have always been sites of both innovation and creativity, but also conflict and inequality.
Harvey traces the evolution of cities from their origins in ancient Mesopotamia to their current dominance as the primary form of human settlement. He shows how cities have been shaped by economic, political, and social forces, and how they have in turn shaped the course of human history.
Secret History of the Urban Age is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the challenges facing cities today and how we can build a more sustainable and just urban future.
