But Judith was determined not to let her disability define her. She attended public schools, where she often faced resistance from teachers and administrators who did not believe she could learn. But she persevered, and eventually went on to college and graduate school.

In the 1970s, Judith became involved in the disability rights movement. She co-founded the Berkeley Center for Independent Living, one of the first organizations to provide services and support to people with disabilities.

Judith also worked tirelessly to advocate for legislation that would protect the rights of Americans with disabilities. She was a key figure in the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990, which prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in employment, housing, public accommodations, and transportation.

The ADA has made a profound difference in the lives of millions of Americans with disabilities. It has given them the opportunity to live independently, work, and participate fully in society.
